Liming Set to Retire, Search For New Treasurer Underway

Posted Thursday, August 29, 2024

The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District is seeking a new treasurer with the acceptance of the resignation of Kevin Liming at the end of December 2024.

Liming served the district for 22 years and saw the community through eight levy passages as a strong steward of the district’s finances.

The treasurer’s department won the Ohio Auditor of State’s Award for Exemplary Financial Reporting several times over the years and also brought home the Government Finance Officers Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on numerous occasions.

Prior to coming to the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District, Liming served as the treasurer for Greeneview Schools for 14 years and Cedar Cliff Schools for seven years before that.

“I’m proud of the staff we put together here,” Liming said of the Treasurer’s Department staff. “It took a lot of interviews to get the right people. They are excellent with technology, intelligent and good on deadlines.

“I’m also proud to say we have a really good, solid financial base.”

Liming said in retirement he hopes to travel and read, saying he’s missed out on some of the classics. Liming has three children and several grandchildren who live out of state. He’s also a movie buff, having watched the American Film Institute’s top 100 movies. His office is a testament to his love of film and television, with posters celebrating some of the best works of all time. He said he also plans on attending a few more out-of-state Ohio State football games.

The Board of Education accepted his resignation during the Feb. 8, 2024 board meeting which modified the end of his contract at the time, extending it by six months.

“Mr. Liming has been a tremendous asset to Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools for the 22 years that he has served as its treasurer,” Superintendent Dr. Doug Cozad said. “His financial expertise and collaborative mindset has helped navigate the school district during his tenure. We wish him the best of luck in his retirement.”

The Board of Education passed a resolution to contract with K-12 Consulting to assist in the search for a new Treasurer during the June 11 meeting. The job description and how to apply can be found here. Application deadline is September 13.

Cozad said some of the qualities the district is looking for in the next treasurer include being a collaborative worker – needing to be able to communicate with the Board of Education, Superintendent, staff, and community. The consulting firm also stated the ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate confidence and problem-solving abilities to achieve the district’s goals within fiscal constraints.

The next Treasurer/CFO should be a skilled communicator who can clearly and transparently explain district finances while being positive, approachable and a proactive planner.
