GIRLS STATE WRESTLING
Junior Jada Weiss made a strong run during the state tournament Friday and Saturday, but ultimately her season ended at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
While Weiss took first place in the Regional at Harrison High School last week, an early loss was too much to overcome.
Weiss was pinned in the first round on Friday, but fought back in her second match with a close, 3-0 victory, moving her on to Saturday's competition. Weiss, however, couldn't post a win in her first match Saturday, falling 7-2 to end her season. Weiss posted a record of 38-4.
During the Regional, Weiss pinned three of her four opponents, taking down Tri-County North's Madison Jeffers in the finals at the 5:06 mark. Weiss won her first two matches via pin by defeating her opponents in 34 seconds and 1:45, respectively. In the semifinals, she defeated Lebanon's Natalie Carlisle 7-0.
Weiss captured the Division I Greeneview Pre-Regional title at 155, winning her final match by pin to qualify for the Regional at Harrison.
COMPETITIVE CHEERThe Bellbrook Competition Cheer team took second place at the OASSA State Cheer Championships in the Traditional Cheer competition. The season overall was nothing less than successful for the Eagles. The season started with a bang as the team placed first at the Eaton Cheertober Fest and the Waynesville Spartan Spectacular. They were crowned SWBL Grand Champions and the OASSA State runner-ups in the DIII small non-building category against 13 other teams vying for the title. Bellbrook's traditional competition team made its first appearance at the UCA Nationals held in Orlando, Florida in February.
They made it through the preliminary and semifinal rounds and competed in the finals, which is almost unheard of for a team competing for the first time at the national level. They were the only team in the area to make it to the final round in the DII non-building category and are ranked 7th in the nation.
The Game Day competition team also had an excellent season, culminating in a third place finish at the OASSA state competition. Throughout the season the team
was successful, earning first place at the Waynesville Spartan Spectacular competition and second place at the Centerville Cheer in the New Year competition. They were the SWBL champions, qualified at the Southwest Regional for the Ohio Association of Secondary Administrators (OASSA) State competition and took third place out of the 11 qualifying teams in the DIII building game day division.

DISTRICT WRESTLINGThe boys wrestling season came to a halt at the Division II District Tournament at Wilmington Friday and Saturday.
Landen Weiss was the top finisher for the Eagles, taking 6th at 157. He won his first two matches of the weekend, but fell in the final three. He finished his season with a 33-9 record.
Ivan Bao (132) won his first match of the tournament but fell in his next two to finish his season with a record of 13-10. Tressel Blair (106) lost his first two matches and finished his season 17-17. Ben Slagley (120) lost his first two matches and finished his season 11-22.
Sectional Results:
Landen Weiss won the sectional title at 157 during the Division II tournament at Clinton-Massie.
He moved on to the district tournament with teammates Dominic Hummel, who finished second at 150, and fourth-place finishers Tressel Blair (106), Ben Slagley (120) and Ivan Bao (132).
Bellbrook finished sixth as a team with 133 points.
STATE SWIMMING
The 200 free relay team of Josh Vawter, Elijah Vawter, Luke Henley and Peter Guthrie finished 12th in the Division II state finals at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. The team was seeded 23rd, qualified for finals in 16th and finished all the way up in 12th with a time of 1:30.69, dropping almost three-tenths of a second in the finals.
Guthrie, a senior, finished on the podium twice on Friday. He took 8th in the 50 free with a 21.85 seconds and he took 8th in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 58.48.
The 200 medley relay team finished 19th, moving up from their 21st-place seed time. Aidan Evans, Guthrie, Rylan Carper and Henley poste
d a time of 1:41.67.
As a team, the boys finished 18th out of 66 teams, scoring 37 points.
STATE DIVING
Mia Nazarenus finished on the podium at the state diving meet, taking sixth in the 1-meter diving competition Wednesday.
Nazarenus scored 409.5 points at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton in the Division I meet. She came in as the 14th diver in terms of points after the Regional.
Nazarenus had 189.6 points after the prelims, 298.55 after the semifinals and a personal best 409.5 after the finals.
Connor Spriggs finished his diving season with a 12th-place finish at the Division II state meet in Canton, Tuesday.
Spriggs scored a 313.35 to end his junior season.
Spriggs made it into the finals after the first session and climbed a few spots to earn his 12th-place finish. He was the second-highest finisher in southwest Ohio.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The Eagles' season came to an end on Monday night at Trotwood in the Division II tournament as the boys fell to Kenton Ridge, 72-58.
The Eagles trailed big early, falling behind 41-19 at the half. The Eagles end their season with a record of 12-11 and finished second in the SWBL Southwestern Division.
The Eagles brought home plenty of hardware in the past week, though as senior Kellen Solomon was named District 15 Senior All Star, and to the Southwest District Team, and First Team SWBL. Austin Webb earned District 15 Underclass All-Star, All-District, and First Team SWBL. CJ Scohy was named to the SWBL second team and Aidan Caswell was Honorable Mention SWBL.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The girls basketball team ended its season in overtime on Wednesday night, falling to Springfield in the Division I Sectional tournament at Troy High School.
The Eagles fell 57-55 to the Wildcats and needed another comeback to get to overtime. Trailing by six at the half, and three going into the fourth quarter, Bellbrook tied it up at 48-48 going into the extra period.
The Eagles fought back from 13 down against Miamisburg in their first-round game to earn their way into the second round. They end their season with a record of 16-8 and a SWBL Southwestern Division title. Read more at Xenia Gazette.
